The Garden of Eden

6:30 AM Prueba 0 Comments

I was doing a little research the other day on new emerging fashion weeks, of which I shall write in another post. I came across a collection called "The Garden of Eden" from a chinese designer who debuted in 2010 called Yiqin Yin.
Her work really impressed me, the structures, details, contrast between light and color
using textures to add realism, textures with tiny soft feathers and lazer-cut are gorgeous. The show was beautiful, the models looked pre-Raphaelite, with braided hair and individual strands blowing in the wind like Boticelli’s women, they were draped in fabric, never quite fully covered. But it was perfectly natural; it was the Garden of Eden.

Here my favourite looks!

The coat guide

6:30 AM Prueba 0 Comments

The elegant  man and woman always has one or more coats, but to choose isn't always the easiest.
Here 10 things you need to take into consideration.

1.- Select a quality material as cashmere, alpaca or wool.
2.-Check quality in all finishes, stitching, buttons, hems and closures.
3.-Sleeves should fall just at the wrist or in the middle of the palm. If not, they must adjust.

4.- For people who are not very high, the best are the three quarters or tight coats.
5.-For tall persons, the best are the type trench coats in half leg-lenght or crossed.

6.-If you are more robust, avoid prints, shoulder pads or oversized coats.
7.-Choose as first model a classic design in neutral or conservative tones.
8.-Once you own a basic coat, dare to buy one with the colors of the season: Mustard, dark Green, burgundy or blue.
9.-Measure coats over the clothing on which you plan to use it.
10.-Store your coat in a cool dry place, with special linings and always read the manufacturer's label.

A coat is one of the must have for the season, just choose the one that suits you better and conquer the winter

The eternal cover girl

6:30 AM Prueba 0 Comments

80 year old Carmen Dell'Orefice, who was born and raised in NYC is the model with the longest career in the world.
Like fine wine, this model only improves with time.
Her first cover was for Vogue at the age of 15 years, the German photographer Irwin Blumenfeld discovered at age 13 and the cover was made in 1947.

Diana Vreeland supported her career since the beginning, she was also a great friend and muse of Salvador Dalí until the artist's death.
Carmen participated with Woody Allen in the films Celebrity and the Jade Scorpion

She never dyed her hair because she believes that there are any beauty secrets, you should just be natural, drink water and eat healthy.
This madam has worked for Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Alberta Ferreti, Vittadini, Isaac Mizrahi, Cho Cheng, Palacio de Hierro, Neiman Marcus and as Coco´s favourite model, as Chanel No.5 image in 1968.

In my opinión she's a beautiful and elegant lady, who should be an example for all of those who think beauty ends after the 30´s.

After the dismissal of John for his anti-Semitic statements, one of the biggest questions circulating in the fashion scene was... who was going to take the reins of the house of Dior?

Since then there was a parade of names: Alber Elvaz (Lanvin), Sarah Burton, Alexander McQueen, Ricardo Tisci (Givenchy), Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs ....
Everyone was very nervous and so far Raf Simons name had not appeared on the scene.
However, he was appointed to this great job.
The Jil Sanders collection he present the spring of 2011 made a strong impact. Color blocking rules the catwalk and Simons creations appeared in every magazine.

So the 44 year old Belgian, who began his career as a designer is perfect for the brand. As he said: "When I marry a firm I completely adopt its intention, heritage and meaning"
Raf has given a new and fresh style to the brand without losing the ideals of Dior.

The history of the Hermés Birkin bag

6:30 AM Prueba 0 Comments

Some Birkin handbags from Hermès in crocodile skin and diamonds can cost up to 70,000 euros.
If you think that is too much do not worry ...you  can find the cheapest one for 6,000 euros.
Here is the story of how it was born:

The French maison de couture Hermès has produced the Birkin for 25 years.
In 1984, Jean Louis Dumas (company president), met on a plane from Paris to London the actress Jane Birkin

Jane was trying to stick her huge straw bag in the plane´s luggage compartmet, but everything fell to the ground.
Jean asked Jane: "why don't you use a normal closed bag?", And Jane responded: " because there are no such large bags to put everything I need: the childrens bottle, a book, a scarf, the phone, a toothbrush, camera, pliers, water bottle, etc..

That is when Jean decided to design a closed bag for Jane Birkin.
That´s how this exclusive and glamorous Birkin bag was born . Jean decided to create limited copies. So if you want to buy a Birkin bag, you will not find it in any Hermés boutique; you must order it and get on the waiting list for at least two years.
You can choose among five types of skins: goat, calf, ostrich, lizard and crocodile. The more exotic, more expensive.

Each bag is handmade by one tanner, who has to work at least for a week to reach the quality standards, these are so high, that only 2% of the skin received, is suitable to use in a Birkin.
Among the fans of this bag are singers, actresses and models, including Katie Holmes, Heidi Klum,
Elle Mcpherson, Alessandra Ambrosio and Madona. But the biggest fan is undoubtedly Victoria Beckham, who owns over 100 Birkin bags.
Each bag comes with a stylish case for storage and a cute golden padlock to close.

Chanel: Paris-Edinbourgh Metiers d'Art Pre-Fall 2012/2013 show

6:00 AM Prueba 1 Comments

Taking as frame Linlithgow Palace, the Scottish castle dating from 1424 where Mary of Scotland was born and raised, the german designer Karl Lagerfeld presented the ready to wear Pre-Fall 2012/2013 collection.

The top model Stella Tennant and Karl

This time Métiers d'Arts, is inspired by the years Coco Chanel spent with her lover the Duke of Westminster in Scotland. It also pays homage to the artisans who work in the Maison de couture. Workshop leaders, embroiderers, shoemakers, glovers and hatters.

The brand's iconic tweed together with cashmere, wool and tartan print were the stars of the runway.
My favorite details were the argyle socks, the berets, woven scarves and hats witch gave a chic/urban flair to all the looks.

One of the most important statements the fashions Kaiser did, were the ballon-cut skirts which as he dictated are back for the season !

Here this wonderful show:

My favourites:

Victorian necks, I can see myself wearing these

Nothing like a beauty in white

Tartan Glamour, the best option for Winter

I love these ensemble, but mostly the feather fedora

2 Handsome gentlemen

Absolutely gorgeous and elegant hairstyles

Fringes and a beautiful scarf

Oversized... the bigger the better !

A chanel camellia, an argyle sweater and a tartan skirt.
What else do you need?

I trully loved this collection, because it is elegant, classy , urban, chic, stylish and above all full of details which make it different and therefore desirable.
